For twenty years now, Nicoletta Giberti has been investigating Fairy Tales, inspired by the psychologist and student of Jung who used them for a long time in her therapies. As the Artistic Director of the Fairy Tale Festival, which takes place every year in Modena and is aimed at an adult audience, explains well: “ The relationship between Fairy Tales and analytical psychology is very close, as Fairy Tales talk about life, and all the events that are part of existence. In this sense, they are more useful to adults - sharing a thought together with the narrator who gives voice to the Fairy Tale - than to the child who escapes, as he is still "young" in experiences. The child has mostly not yet experienced mourning, sexuality or, more simply, the joy of procreation. At an even deeper level of analysis, Marie Louise von Franz believes that almost all fairy tales attempt to metaphorically describe the process of individuation or, even better, the process of incarnation of the self. And here is their fundamental function yesterday, today and tomorrow ...”.
For over ten years the Festival has been investigating this narrative genre through heterogeneous languages with a broad and profound gaze. The protagonists are the Fairy Tales - strictly from the German, Norwegian and Russian tradition - narrated in a simple voice.
“ The Fairy Tale Festival was born from the same impulse that, over time, has moved man to tell fairy tales: the encounter with the unconscious substrate and the vivifying effect that comes from telling them, reading them or simply listening to them - adds Giberti, creator of the event - the fairy tale is made up of symbols that have been repeated since its origins all over the world, and it was created for adults, children were occasional listeners, passing through ”.
The Festival recreates what was once called “hearth”, celebrating the ritual of storytelling and preparing its visitors to a state of listening. Every time a traditional tale is told, something precious is shared and understood by all, in a personal and collective epiphany.
Nicoletta Giberti
Actress, director and performer, she has been investigating the theme of "Fairy Tale" for years, paying particular attention to the anthropological and social aspect that this genre has had over time. Artistic Director of a unique Festival in the country for its originality and target audience, she conceives the archetypal narration of fairy tales as a channel in which the voice becomes a necessary and invaluable medium. The recovery of a lost orality and enchantment are just some of the fundamental points of her research. She has several training courses under her belt, the creation and direction of site-specific events and over twenty years of performances on narration. She has studied and worked, among others, with Enrique Vargas, Danio Manfredini, Sonia Abaunza Galvis, Stefano Vercelli and Chiara Guidi. " I am interested in investigating human feeling to glimpse collective memory and renew a fundamental social necessity of culture. My highest aim, through the Festival and my works, is to bring attention back to something very precious and necessary, to an investigation of the self, which sometimes escapes in the brief intensity of a life”.
